Not Refreshed

I had a dentist appointment today to get my permanent bridge put in, then it was off to work. Long 12 hours. Tedious. Started off with a vent transfer that required suctioning. Then just a procession of meaningless calls. A minor motor vehicle to check a woman three weeks pregnant, who wasn’t hurt. The cop just wanted us to check her because she was three weeks pregnant. A bunch of difficulty breathing/chest pain calls that were all pretty much either stress, respiratory infections or pulled muscles. Basically healthy people talked into going to the hospital by office nurses or in one case the detox treatment center. The hospitals were overflowing today and not happy to see us bring in anyone healthy or sick.

The one funny call was for a headache – an old woman and her drunken husband. I take her in once every couple of years, she and her husband are always bickering. She has him wrapped around her finger. She lost her wallet and was blaming him. We finally found the wallet on the ground outside the ER by the ambulance entrance. The only reason she was at the hospital was because a visiting nurse told her her blood pressure was high and she should see the doctor. Her pressure wasn’t high.

Having three days off didn’t really leave me refreshed.

* I did win $370 in my poker tournaments, coming in 4th in the Omaha/Hold’em Pairs tournament out of 43. 12th in the No Limit Hold’em out of 105, and busting out early in the Mixed Event tournament. No more vacation until next year.
